And the pantslessness continues.... Sunday evening was quiet and inconspicuous, as it should be. I began the evening with a bike ride to a semi-locally-famous bridge around town with my nephew. Invigorating and tiring all at the same time. My nephew loves this bridge because, aside from the fact it runs over a frequently used train track, it has both his first and middle names on it. Upon our return, it was time to ready myself for evening services at our church. Little known fact, Methuselah died in the year of the flood.

5:21Enoch lived sixty-five years, and became the father of Methuselah.
22Then Enoch (D)walked with God three hundred years after he became the father of Methuselah, and he had other sons and daughters.
23So all the days of Enoch were three hundred and sixty-five years.
24(E)Enoch walked with God; and he was not, for God (F)took him.
25Methuselah lived one hundred and eighty-seven years, and became the father of Lamech.
26Then Methuselah lived seven hundred and eighty-two years after he became the father of Lamech, and he had other sons and daughters.
27So all the days of Methuselah were nine hundred and sixty-nine years, and he died.
28Lamech lived one hundred and eighty-two years, and became the father of a son.
29Now he called his name Noah, saying, "This one will give us rest from our work and from the toil of our hands arising from (G)the ground which the LORD has cursed."
30Then Lamech lived five hundred and ninety-five years after he became the father of Noah, and he had other sons and daughters.
31So all the days of Lamech were seven hundred and seventy-seven years, and he died.
32Noah was (H)five hundred years old, and Noah became the father of Shem, Ham, and Japheth.
...7:11In the (K)six hundredth year of Noah's life, in the second month, on the seventeenth day of the month, on the same day all (L)the fountains of the great deep burst open, and the floodgates of the sky were opened. (969 years from the birth of Methuselah to the flood.)

Anywho, where was I? Ah yes, after services I was to help the in-laws with moving some furniture; insert creative foreshadowing better than "the end was near." I have a habit of lifting correctly (from the knees, not the back) which I always saw as a good thing, until. While moving the TV from a raised stand in one room to the floor in another I began strong. All weight was on my legs and I thought things were going well. As I squatted to put the TV down I realized that, while my legs could take the strain, my seam could not handle it. RIIIIIP! Thar' she blew. As I stood up I remarked to no one in particular "I was afraid this would happen." To which my mother-in-law replied,
"Did you throw your back out?"
Me: *stands, starring blankly* "No"
Wife: "Did you hurt your back?"
Me: *stands, starring blankly* "No"
Wife: "Well? What happened?"
Me: *Turns around and shows*
Wife and Mother-in-law in unison: "HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!"
Thus I was again left without cover.

Stories of Terror... and Sinking

This weekend we (my lovely wife and I) went on vacation for a good time. The weekend started with a trip to Branson where we spent two of our four days. Not content with just one vacation this weekend, we then went to Lake Norfork for some boating and relaxation in one of the largest lakes around us. Monday was quite uneventful and relaxing. Camping was great. Hard ground, no pillow, and frozen by two in the morning make my night. Tuesday found us separate, I on the boat with the rest of the crew and Mrs. Duck42 on land buying books and clothes. This meant only one thing... lack of rational judgment on the lake. It started with me joining one of the guys with us on a dive... note, I have never gone scuba diving in my life. This ended happily with me not drowning and learning that I quite enjoy diving. Next, tubing! As one of the only members of our group comfortable with pulling a tube behind our ski boat, Monday had left me wanting a ride at least. Tuesday promised me this opportunity. The ride started well. The speed was good, the water cool and crisp against my face then it happened. The driver decided to be a "hot dog". Speed is a difficult thing for a novice to understand. When an object is tied to another object going in a circle, centrifugal force pushes the object at the end of the line to a faster speed than the object at the center of the circle... simple enough principle but it escaped the drivers mind. As we mad the circle, the tube lifted from the water and began to spin. Knowing it wouldn't be long until I was forced off the tube, I decided to give in and let gravity win. Skipping across the lake was fun until I landed and suspected something was amiss. Namely, my trunks. One would think that swim trunks would float if lost near the surface of the water, HOWEVER, one would be wrong to assume this of mine. As the sun sparkled in my eyes as I came to the surface for air I realized that I had indeed lost my swim trunks completely. At this point I would also like to add I was on the lake this day with my wife's female cousin and female sister and their boyfriends. Not only was I entirely naked, no one would believe me without proof. So I was left with a decision; boldly take the ladder or plead for assistance. Let's just say "history favored the bold." To make matters worse I had left my towel at my car parked no where near the boat dock. Even beyond that we had to refuel the pontoon boat we had been using that day. Here I would like to offer my thanks to Von McDaniel for the use of his Dive Flag towel. Also, I would like to point out that it is not a nice thing to do to a person to point out to the female attendant at the marina that said person is lacking in clothing under his towel. Luckily I have a loving wife who thought wisely to pack "emergency pants," just in case. Thank you Mrs. Duck42.

Weekend plans are great and all but whatever happened to spontaneous fun? I guess it's my upbringing but I just want to wake up one morning and say "let's go to the lake" and everyone be like, "sound's fun, I'm not doing anything." All I can figure is I actually liked when my dad would wake us up on the first long weekend of spring (or whenever he felt like it i.e. mid semester and mid week) and say: "let's go to Michigan." I suppose it was just exciting and you never knew when it would happen or where you'd be going. Must have stressed mom out something fierce... still, it made life a bit more interesting.
